Design Process

Landscape Design

My customers have always appreciated my ideas and fresh perspective. I think this is because I always try to enter into a new project with an open mind. I listen very carefully to my client’s wants and needs, soak in the architecture, and understand the context of the site.

A garden is a composition really, a combination of art, nature, technology and the client’s unique personality. My designs today gracefully integrate these elements into beautiful garden spaces that can inspire your spirit. My design sheets clearly define the technical aspects as well as communicate your aesthetic vision to the contractor.

Initial meeting

At the first meeting the basic parameters of your job are discussed. Your vision or ideas for your yard, the intended uses, and a comfortable budget will be identified. A customized design package and an estimate of the fee will be discussed.

Creative Circle

If you decide to proceed, a “Creative Circle” meeting will be scheduled in your home. You will be given a homework assignment to collect pictures of landscapes and garden spaces you love. These items will help me understand your style, taste, and vision. Additionally your HOA CC&R’s, builder plot plan copies will be needed.

Project Inventory

A detailed inventory of your project site will be developed. Grades, drainage, views, privacy, soils, access, property dimensions, utility lines, and numerous photographs, etc, are collected to create an existing site condition study.

Concept Presentation

Two completely different concept drawings will be presented to help you visualize your project more clearly. We will discuss each concept in detail and decide on a final plan that best suits you.

Final Concept Plan

A final plan is presented and the final corrections will be made. Plan and detail sheets to be included will be discussed. If your installation will be phased, a phased plan set will be developed. If you decide to use us to manage your project, we can begin selecting contractors for you almost immediately.

Project Management

I manage the installation of most of the projects I design. You may not have the time or desire to handle these projects on your own. Having an experienced manager organize your project with a critical eye on quality, timeline, budget and aesthetics can make a big difference in the finished product.
